Understanding Cellulite Reduction

September 30, 2016  |   Cellulite Reduction

One of the greatest aesthetic complaints among women, and men, of all ages or sizes is cellulite. Although cellulite, the dimpled skin most commonly visible on buttocks, thighs, and hips, is not a medical condition or illness, it can be bothersome in appearance and to self-image.

What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite refers to the dimpled, lumpy-in-appearance skin that many people have on their buttocks, thighs and hips. Cellulite is caused by pockets of fat that deposit below the surface of the skin pushing against connective tissues. The pressure placed on these connective tissues pushes upward creating the dimpled appearance on the skin.

Cellulite is more commonly found in women than in men simply because of the differences in skin and muscle composition. The fibrous bands connecting skin and muscle on men are naturally structured in a crisscross pattern, whereas women’s are found in a vertical pattern. The crisscross pattern is more effective in keeping fat in place. Women also have a thinner epidermis, which allows for a greater visible appearance as these connective tissues are pushed outward.

As mentioned before, cellulite is not the result of a medical condition or illness, nor is it a direct result of being overweight. Cellulite affects people of all ages and sizes. Factors that can contribute to the amount of cellulite a person might have along with the level of visibility include:

  • Genetics
  • Slow Metabolism
  • Poor Diet or Fad Dieting
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Dehydration
  • Skin Thickness and Color
  • Total Body Fat

Cellulite Treatment

As cellulite is not a medical condition, it is most commonly treated as a cosmetic problem by plastic surgeons. There are a number of natural remedies and practices that are said to treat and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Among these options are healthy diet, exercise, and not smoking.

Dr. Michael Whetstone along with his team of experienced medical aestheticians offer effective cellulite reduction treatments at Las Colinas Centre for Plastic Surgery to the Dallas, Texas area.

TriPollar by Pollogen Legend Fat Reduction

Las Colinas Plastic Surgery greatly advocates Pollogen’s TriPollar Radio Frequency technology as a successful non-surgical treatment in reducing the appearance of cellulite. TriPollar skin-tightening treatments utilize an innovative device to stimulate fat and cellulite reduction by administering radio frequency energy to the skin surface and through to the subcutaneous fat layers. Through this concentrated and controlled energy treatment, the metabolism is accelerated consequently causing fat cells to shrink and stimulating collagen regeneration.

TriPollar focuses the energy right where it’s needed so less power is necessary. During treatment, a mild heating sensation can be felt. Immediately after treatment, some redness and warmth can be seen and felt on the skin, however, both should disappear within an hour or so following the treatment. Immediate results are seen in almost all patients during the first treatment.

For the most effective treatment, four to six sessions of TriPollar at Las Colinas Centre for Plastic Surgery is recommended. TriPollar treatment is safe and effective with short treatment sessions that are painless and do not require recovery downtime. With TriPollar fat reduction, you can see improvement in the appearance of cellulite on your skin.

Las Colinas Centre for Plastic Surgery also offers VASERsmooth™ cellulite treatment technology. VASERsmooth™ breaks apart unwanted fat along with the fibrous bands that are pushed upward as a result of the fat pockets underneath them that cause the dimpling and lumpy appearance of the skin. VASERsmooth™ uses ultrasonic energy to break up the pressured connective tissue and the fat under the skin.

During treatment, the targeted area is numbed and a saline solution is injected to fill the treated area. A small probe is then used to emit ultrasound energy that will liquefy fat and cut through the fibrous bands. The fat is then gently suctioned out.

VASERsmooth™ is commonly combined with other surgical procedures such as liposuction. Recovery from this procedure is dependent on the size of the area treated, amount of fat removed and any coordinating procedures. VASERsmooth™ offers visible results in cellulite reduction.
